    Gratitude and Athletes’ Life Satisfaction: The Moderating Role of Mindfulness

    Life satisfaction is a critical index of well-being and is well documented in the literature as a means of protecting athletes from stress. However, minimal research has focused on the factors that contribute to life satisfaction in sports. Accordingly, we adopted the positive psychology perspective and proposed that gratitude would relate to athletes’ life satisfaction. Additionally, we further suggested that mindfulness would strengthen the relationship between gratitude and athletes’ life satisfaction. Athletes completed measurements, and the results, which indicated that athletes with higher levels of gratitude exhibited increased life satisfaction when they had higher levels of mindfulness, supported our expectations. The implications and applications are discussed in terms of mindfulness

    Biodiesel Produced from Catalyzed Transesterification of Triglycerides Using ion-Exchanged Zeolite Beta and MCM-22

    AbstractIn this work, biodiesel production from catalyzed transesterification of triglycerides with excess methanol was studied by using ion-exchanged Zeolite Beta and MCM-22 as heterogeneous catalysts. Zeolite Beta and MCM-22 were synthesized with hydrothermal processes and, subsequently, modified by ion-exchanged with alkali ions. These as-obtained zeolite catalysts could yield a high conversion of triglycerides to biodiesel. The conversion efficiency was largely affected by crystallinity and frameworks of zeolite support, pH value of alkali ion-exchange solutions and alkali loadings onto the zeolite support. Furthermore, the effects of the duration of the sodium ion-exchange process on the final conversion efficiency of triolein to biodiesel, both the as-prepared Zeolite MCM-22 and Zeolite Beta catalysts were used. The effect of the duration of the sodium ion-exchange process is insignificant in transesterification using Na-ion-exchanged Zeolite MCM-22 catalysts from 0.5 to 4h. In contrast, the conversion efficiency of triolein to biodiesel reached ca. 95% in 0.5hours of transesterification using Zeolite Beta ion-exchanged with 3 mmol-eq. Na+/g cat for 0.5hours

In this research, the questionnaires were developed and performed in one of creative park in Taipei, Taiwan to study customer behavior.     Exploring quantum criticality based on ultracold atoms in optical lattices

    Critical behavior developed near a quantum phase transition, interesting in its own right, offers exciting opportunities to explore the universality of strongly-correlated systems near the ground state. Cold atoms in optical lattices, in particular, represent a paradigmatic system, for which the quantum phase transition between the superfluid and Mott insulator states can be externally induced by tuning the microscopic parameters. In this paper, we describe our approach to study quantum criticality of cesium atoms in a two-dimensional lattice based on in situ density measurements. Our research agenda involves testing critical scaling of thermodynamic observables and extracting transport properties in the quantum critical regime. We present and discuss experimental progress on both fronts. In particular, the thermodynamic measurement suggests that the equation of state near the critical point follows the predicted scaling law at low temperatures.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figure

    Cell Docking, Movement and Cell-Cell Interactions of Heterogeneous Cell Suspensions in a Cell Manipulation Microdevice

    This study demonstrates a novel cell manipulation microdevice for cell docking, culturing, cell-cell contact and interaction by microfluidic manipulation of heterogeneous cell suspensions. Heterogeneous cell suspensions include disparate blood cells of natural killer cells and leukemia cancer cells for immune cell transplantation therapy. However, NK cell alloreactivity from different healthy donors present various recovery response levels. Little is still known about the interactions and cytotoxicity effects between donor NK cells and recipient cancer cells. The cell-based micro device first showed the capability of cell docking, movement, contact and cell-cell interaction with respect to cell cytotoxicity of NK cells against cancer cells. With various flow tests for live cell loading, flow rates of 10 ÎĽL/h were chosen for injection in the central and side flows such that both types of suspension cells could be gently docked at the gap structure in a reaction zone. The trapping number of particles and cells was linearly proportional to the gap length. Finally, the cytotoxicity of around 40% was found to be similar in the case of dilute cells and a large cell population. As a result, the cell manipulation microdevice has been validated for live suspensions of natural killer and cancer cells, and exhibited the capability to measure the cytotoxicity of dilute cell suspensions

    Comparing hybrid and regular COVID-19 vaccine-induced immunity against the Omicron epidemic

    Evidence on the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines among people who recovered from a previous SARS-CoV-2 infection is warranted to inform vaccination recommendations. Using the territory-wide public healthcare and vaccination records of over 2.5 million individuals in Hong Kong, we examined the potentially differential risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection, hospitalization, and mortality between those receiving two homologous doses of BNT162b2 or CoronaVac versus those with a previous infection receiving only one dose amid the Omicron epidemic. Results show a single dose after a SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with a lower risk of infection (BNT162b2: adjusted incidence rate ratio [IRR] = 0.475, 95% CI: 0.410–0.550; CoronaVac: adjusted IRR = 0.397, 95% CI: 0.309–0.511) and no significant difference was detected in the risk of COVID-19-related hospitalization or mortality compared with a two-dose vaccination regimen. Findings support clinical recommendations that those with a previous infection could receive a single dose to gain at least similar protection as those who received two doses without a previous infection
